Your Wedding Vows – Why They Deserve Thought and Consideration

Perhaps that should have come with its own subtitle – and why it’s important not to rush. We know that you’re eager to arrive on your big day with everything sorted out perfectly with everything in its place, but your wedding vows should be the one thing that is never rushed or hurried. So today we’re talking about the importance of thinking, planning and writing your wedding vows – your way.

So, you’ve got the dress, the bridesmaids dresses and you’re almost there with the groom and page boys. There’s so much to think about, you’ll be planning your hen night, or your matron of honour will, if you’re big on tradition that is, then you’ll be thinking about the reception. Then it’s the evening celebrations, and possibly plans for a honeymoon. If we had our way you’d be thinking about hiring a wedding planner, because the one thing we’re really good at is planning other people’s weddings – it’s what we do. At Pretty White we offer the best in wedding advice and guidance, but for now let’s focus on those wedding vows.

You can certainly add a personal message to vows, however all vows will need to have certain declarations for legal reasons, and in a church, you may not have the same amount of freedom as in a civil wedding. It’s important you’re aware of this so when you come to plan what you’re going to say, you keep this in mind.

What you need to do is plan your wedding vows taking into consideration all that you want to include. Preferably, sound some people out, such as a family member or a close friend. They can listen to what you have so far, and also add anything they think you may have forgotten. Remember the time you have, you don’t want it to ramble indefinitely and you don’t want to add anything too personal, and when we say personal we mean very personal. Try keeping those type of reminiscences until after the wedding.

If you plan well ahead, you should have plenty of time to consider what you’re going to be including in your vows. Whatever you do, don’t leave it until the last minute, this will leave you rushing it with the potential of making mistakes. You want to leave yourself with enough time to write something good, something that includes the most important reasons why you’re marrying your partner and why you want to spend the rest of your life with him/her.
